Male; Orange Tips are the earliest Butterfly to emerge from a Pupa in the spring, as opposed to other early spring Butterflies, like Peacock, that have overwintered as adults.
These butterflies are very distateful to predators, such as birds, tasting of bitter mustard oils accumalated from their food plants in the caterpillar stage. The orange wing markings serve as a warning.
