Male Kingfisher

Kingfishers need to catch between ten and twenty small fish every day to remain healthy, 60% of their bodyweight.
They have polarizing vision to help them see through the water and they also have the ability to correctly calculate the perceived angle difference that refraction of light passing through water gives. When they dive they have a membrane which closes over their eyes to protect them before making contact with the water, catching their prey under water is then achieved by touch.
