Male Kingfisher

Kingfishers out of the breeding season lead solitary lives and have a new partner every year. Once the young birds have fledged they are fed for four or five days. After this they are left to their own devices, it is thought that up to 60% either drown or starve to death through being either unable to properly preen their feathers or unable to fish through lack of tuition.
